Hi guys, Is it actually worth gaz checking in genaral, a friend of mine tells me he gets better acuracy by gaz checking his 44mag 240 swc, does it actually make a difference.

Is usually easier to get an accurate full bore load using a gas check. Have no problem with them (other than added expense), but if you like to experiment, can usually get a plain base bullet to work...with some guns, it may take a bit of fiddling.

MY buddy reloads his 44mag with 20.5g H110, 240g SWC .429 bullet with a gaz check and says the same load without the gaz check is totally different in acuracy, with both his revolvers (S&W 629,RUGAR NEW MODEL SUPER BLACK HAWK 10.5 bbl).

Don't doubt it at bit. As he's happy with that load, why would he want to change?

But if you did want to try plain based bullets, would go with a plain base mold rather than just leaving the gas check off a gas checked mold....would try a harder alloy (or harder heat treatment of that alloy)...and would fiddle arround with the powder charge looking for the right combination.

But why would he? If the bother and cost of GC bullets is fine with him, he's happy with the loads, and the gun shoots well...why go looking for problems?

I jsut got offended by the cost of gas checks...exp. when you buy the little ones (like .22's and 6mm's)...figuring out the price per pound, may have to ask UPS to send them in an armored truck.
