I was having problems with my 12 gauge hollow base slug mold. The top wadcutter shoulder would not cast properly no matter the alloy. I tried WW, WW+tin, pure lead, and lead with 2% tinand 1% silver. It worked better, but not perfect. The slugs are harder than 30-1, but not as hard as WW. I noticed that the slugs with silver, are much tougher to shear with the sprue plate. I will load some soon, and let you know how it works. If anybody has any experience with this let me know. the silver was free scrap, by the way. Thanks Greg Sappington

greg, thats a old trick to hard'en lead, been done for years, you just have to monkey with it to get your formula for what you want, used to do that with silver dimes when makeing round balls for the 8 bore

I finally got the mold to cast right. The problem was that the blocks didn't bleed the air in the cavity properly. I left a hairline gap in the blocks, and the slugs were perfect. The silver works pretty well. I will shoot some soon to see if it has any effect on fouling. Silver seems to help with the mold fill, just like tin. Greg S
