Hey everyone.I stopped by a local gun shop and stumbled across a J prefix(1952) 336A.I paid $240 for the gun and it is in terrific shape with an excellent bore!I could not pass this one up.Can't wait to rig up a reciever sight for it,by the way it's in 30-30 and not drilled or tapped for scope mounts.Do you think I did okay on the price?

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. How's the wood look? Some of the older Marlin's weren't exactly reknowned for their beautiful stocks...

Tom, the wood is in great shape, but is is not the most figured wood I've ever seen on a Marlin.I always had 35's,never a 30-30,so I couldn't pass this one up.

SPREST22,
In my neck of the woods that is a great price....here in Montana we pay $300 to $350 for a Marlin like that.

At the gun shop I frequent they have a 336A, nice shape a little newer than this one for 295.00 so I'd say you did good for yourself. Enjoy it!

You did really well. I just bought a SC .35, of near the same ventage for $300. Probably paid a little too much for it but I've been looking for one for a while. Florida Cracker picked it up for me at a gun show near him. The two mods are a lot alike unless I am waaay the heck off base (not unusual). I'll come back and tell you about it when I receive it.
