Please forgive me for I have sinned against the great Marlin. I have a safe full of Marlin lever actions and have never owned a Winchester but today I took posession of a Winchester 1892 Limited in .38-40. I was really impressed with the fit and looks of the gun and how smooth the action was. I was really impressed with the open sights. These are the best sights I've seen on a lever gun in a long time. Now that I own one Winchester, I may have to get more.
One thing I don't like about it is the safety on the tang. Is it possible to install a tang sight on this gun? Can a receiver sight be mounted on this gun?

Congratulations! Nice gun.
Yes, you can mount a tang sight on the gun, simply discomboomerate that silly tang safety, and the tang sight makes a great cover-up.
As for a receiver sight, yes you can mount one, but it will require drilling and tapping two screw mounting holes on the left side of the receiver.
Great gun, classic cartridge! Let us know how it shoots!
God Bless,

That aint no sin.
Now, if you put a scope on it, that is a sin!
Enjoy

Coldfingers, That brings up another question. Can a side mount scope mount be added to this gun using the screw holes that are already in the receiver? This is my first Winchester and I know nothing about them.

Happy, It's good to hear from you again. Man I have hated Winchester guns all my life or at least thought I hated them until I got the 1892 Limited .38-40. I have been looking at the Browning also and even cosidering a Puma in .45 with stainless octagon barrel. I will definately buy Winchester again. The only thing I don't like about the 1892 is the tang safety and the barrel stamped: Made in Japan. I didn't know that Winchester had any guns made in Japan but the 1892 Limited is. I have been so disgusted with the defects in the Marlin guns that I have started looking at other brands. I haven't given up on Marlin because I still like them the best but if they don't address their quality problem, they are going to lose me as a customer. I had to send four Marlins back, one twice. One was repaired, two were replaced with new guns and one is still at the Marlin factory.

It was good to see you some where in the forums my friend, for I have been keeping my eye open.
I knew allalong that the model 92 was coming out of Japan. I think the model 1886 is also made in Japan. The Browning model 92 I also believe came from oversea's.
Well It is nice to see made in America, but you must admitt , it is a good product..
Marlin, I liked the product , but the company has never acknowledged my problem with the sites on my new guide gun , and would not respond to my inquiry about warranty for the same or my letter regarding the 35 Rem.
So , I think that pretty well puts an end for new rifle sales, I buy used from the fifties.
Winchesters levers in the 94's have always been a chitty clang clang type of gun, but the company and gun s have never let me down.
As for browning- I past experiance one BLR with a so so barrel.would I buy another -Yep!!
Would I buy a puma? Heard they could benifit from some action and trigger work.
Since Marlin talk went down , I lost interst in shinny and new.

Happy, I am looking at the new Winchester 94 Trails End with octagon barrel and case colored receiver. It is listed on the Winchester site but I don't think it has been made yet. It looks just like my 1892 Limited except for the case color and saddle ring.

I have looked at a few 94 Winnie's with the octagon barrels. there were many made for one reason and other. To me they are too muzzle heavy. What calipier were you thinking? ;)
I was thinking a 92 in 25/20 or 32/20 would be sweet. :)
So far I need to work on fillin' the piggy bank first. ;)
Have fun

You are forgiven, Harry. For me there is no hope. As of today the count is 17 Winchesters, 0 Marlins.

Nice rifle! I recently got one in .357 and mounted a Marbles tang sight on it. Marble's make a sight for the current production guns, that doesn't require any gunsmithing to mount.

That's O.K. 'Due'...I forgive you!! " Let he who casts the first stone..." I have a Win. '94 30/30 in the safe...next to a Marlin 336C .35 Rem., and a Marlin 1895 GS .45/70. Had a Pre-'64 Mod. '94 in .32 Spl. I'm still kicking myself for letting go, too. ALL of 'em are great guns, slick and solid. Great to see you and Ranch Dog and Harry ( and others...) still kickin'!! A Browning B-92 in .44 Mag. is in the cards for me, as well as a Marlin 1894cs .357. Still trying to find a very-good condition ( for shooting, not collecting ) Marlin .375. I had one in-the-works when Marlin went down. The guy had about 5 or 6 for sale!! ( I'm still P.O.'d about that...it's a resentment I really DO need to let go of...) I lost my contact thru that. Ah, well, there's a lot more guns out there than I have money for anyhow. ;) Great to be back around you great people, later, Lee.

How is that trails end coming ?
There is some concern over the change in SAMMI spec for the 44 Mag which we just heard about in the forum . the newspec being .431
Have you heard any thing about the 45 Colt?
