Hey- I've got a group of guys (4 of us) that are heading to Dickensen, ND this summer to do some Prairie Doggin'. We have a guy that knows where some towns are, but we are thinking we might like some more definate locations... And if anyone in that area has a dog problem that would be willing to let us on thier land to help alleviate the problem... And heck since we are new to prairie dogs, any advice anyone can give would also be more than welcome...

thanks!

You asked about Dickinson but I know nothing about dog towns around there.

Corson County, SD is mostly Sioux Reservation with various tracts of privately deeded ranches as well. Many large dog towns. The Tribal council will let you shoot for a reasonable fee. Nearest motel is at Lemmon, SD.

Regardless of where you go here's some pointers.

Get out there on a Weekday.... Pick a county, any county and go the town hall at the county seat. Get a map of the county.
They usually have the names of the ranchers. Get a local phone book and start calling.

When you meet people at the town hall, or clerks at the motel, waitresses, people at the restaurant or any where else, ask then it they have any or know some one. You can get some great referrals.

If there is a national grassland or DNR office stop in and ask.
Also ask the people at the chamber of commerce. The Indian Reservations will sent you a list of names for free.

Its really quite easy.

Leave gates as you find them, you will rarely ever find one left open. Don't litter. Don't drive out on soft muddy ground and rut up the trails. Don't shoot towards anything other that a prairie dog.
