what is eveyones favorite powder for the 44 mag with cast 240gr semi-wadcutter keith style with flatbase; no gas check. I like to keep it at a moderate level. Is there a certain powder that works better with cast bullets? my lyman handbook recomends 2400 for mag loads; but dont mention moderate to light mag loads.

leadlum,
For your purposes, I like a load of 14.2g AA #5 under my Keith bullets, sparked by a WLPP in either Rem or Starline brass.
Great mid-range load, no muzzle-flash, and excellent ballistic uniformity. Too, it's a pleasant load to shoot.
God Bless,

Thanks Marshall, apreiciate the reply. Thanks for the suggestion on AA #5. Sound like You know what Im looking for. I`m gonna have to get some next time out. Thank you very much. God bless You and your family. Ray
I use 4227 and get excellent results from linotype in a lyman 429427 mold. Loadem as fast as jacketed bullets and get better accuracy.

2400 works the best for my heavy nongas check loads. I use Unique for my mid-range - target - pin loads. 7-71/2 gr of unique behind a Lyman 240K or a Lee 255 swc. It is a bit dirty and schmokes alot, but it is very accurate. I have heard from other forums that HS-6 is a very good mid load powder, meters well, consistant, and good velocity, and clean; although I have never tried it ...... yet. Any more oomph and I go to the gc Lyman swc (either 215 or 250gr and H110, 296 or 4227).
