Is the current Redfield scope (made by Meade I believe) as good as the original company's scopes? I bought the 6-18 Five Star model with the target turrets the last time. Unfortunately I do not believe that it is available any longer with the target turrets.
I may end up buying the next one from Leopold!

Leupold is your best bet by far!
A friend of mine sent in a couple of those older Redfield scopes and the $26 bucks a piece to fix them. One he sent worked fine, just wanted it overhauld ok. Well, they said they could fix them both, so he sent them. Shippin I think was around $25 dollars for UPS to repack them.
Anyway they got the scopes and they sent him a letter saying they could NOT fix the 4 x 12 Redfield scope.....Their excuse was it was to OLD. They new that in the beginning OK. Now for them to send the scope back they are going to charge him an extra $10 dollars. However it has been several weeks and he still hasn't gotten the scope yet.
Now after making 5 long distance phone calls to the ABO office, all he gets for his money is a lot of Jibberish from some Japanese women who can't hardly speak English. They don't know what happened to his 2nd Redfield scope, a 2 x 7 Widefield. They told him he could trade the 4 x 12 in on a New Redfield and they would give him a discounted price. Only their discounted price of a new Redfield scope is the same price you can buy a new Leupold scope for at Cabela's etc.
I would not waste my money on a Redfield Scope! Nobody around me in handles them at all. None of the discount houses or the sporting good stores. I heard that the quality is NOT that good.

Redfield now a days is nothing more than a name ,like Weaver put on a scope coming from The Orient , Phillipines or wherever they are building them . I have used some of the newer Weavers and they work like most stuff in their price range but nowadays there is no good reason not to spend $20-30 dollars more and get into the lower priced Leupolds.

I've got four old model Redfields - the US made variety.
One is an Illuminator 3-9X with the wide field of view. It's mounted on a Remington M7600 30-06, and does a fine job.
Another is a 2-7X Tracker, which is mounted on my wife's Glenfield 30A 30-30. It, too does the job.
I have two Redield "Partner" 3-9X bought from Wal-Mart, one of which resides on a Savage 99C 308 Winchester. The second is my designated spare.
However, I know if I ever do have problems with them, I'll either have to do the swap for the new, (non US made), deal or toss them.
For whatever it's worth, I buy only Leupold now.

Don't give up on your old Redfields. There are several scope repair places around the country that can restore them for a moderate fee. If you get to the place where you need such, give a holler here on the board and we can give you addresses/phone numbers.

What are the American made old Redfields worth in terms of dollars? Are they worth Leupold money?
Does anyone know about what seems to me to be a peculiar two and three-quarters power model, with a one inch tube?
Has anyone scanned a catalog model list & specifications for the old ones, for comparison purposes?
Where are those places that can repair the old ones?n
