I use wheelweights and 50/50/bar solder, to make #2 alloy. I use household wax for fluxing. I usually wait till the melt gets hot then add the wax sometimes I get to "fold" it into the melt and sometimes it flashes and has to burn down. then I skim the top. I do that a few times. Then I pour bullets; they come out well but have little tiny specks of crud in them. I do my best at sorting my WW also. Any ideas? I use a bottom pour LEE.

Are you scraping the bottom and sides of the pot pretty good before pouring? I keep doing this and then removing what trash comes to the top. When nothing else comes, I then start pouring.

leadlum,
I've had great success with kitty litter for flux. It seems to soak up any impurities, and keeps the alloy from oxidizing in the pot when a layer of about 1" is kept on top. Stir occassionally, as you wish. My WW bullets have never come out brighter and prettier since I started using this technique. Use the "cheap" clay type that goes for about $1.00 per 5lb. bag.
