The western portions of the Dakotas and western Nebraska share common topography with eastern parts of Wyoming and Montana. Eastern Colorado closely matches portions of western Kansas. Parts of Texas and Oklahoma share these features as well. The lines that divide these states were drawn with a straight edge by someone in Washington DC who ignored the physical features of the land. Yet animals such as mule deer have no clue about these state borders and wander about at will.

My only point is that modern mule deer hunters have many places to hunt if a little planning and inquiries are made.

God hunting to you.

Mule deer hunting opportunities are still available here in west central Wyoming for anyone who wants to hunt, resident or nonresident, but the last two years I haven't even bought a license. Good bucks are few and far between and populations are down considerably from just a few years ago due to the current 5 year drought. Because of poor shrub growth due to lack of moisture, does just can't produce enough milk to keep their fawns alive, or some fawns are born in such a weakened condition that they cannot survive. But droughts part of life everywhere, and the deer will come back when this dry period ends. Let's just hope it's sooner that later.
