I am getting a new Savage 111FL 30-06 with Accu-trigger soon. I also have this 2 year old Leupold VX II 3-9x40mm that I want to pair with the new Savage.
Which type/brand of mount and rings would you get for this combo that will be the most cost-effective?
Stay away from any aluminum or aluminum alloy mount/ring set with the moderate recoil of the 30-06. Invest in some steel bases and rings of your choice. One area you really don't want to go cheap is in the scope or the mounting system.
Your Leupold deserves a good platform.

I would use a set of Leupold bases and a set of medium height Leupold rings with the thought that I would not have any problems with my scope due to poorly made gear.

Out of the STD mounts, QR mounts and QRW mounts, which one would you go with?

I would just use a standard set. I like to mount a scope on a rifle and get it properly zeroed in and then leave it there. I like knowing that if I pick up one of my rifles that it is always ready to go. No second guessing if my scope returned properly to zero if I had removed and then replaced it back on my rifle. Each to their own, thats just what I like for myself.
