I started out in 1958 and bought a No. 1 Mark III .303 Enfield for $15.88. Since then I have picked up a number of additional rifles. I guess I do not have a favorite, but like the U.S. 1917 Enfield, 1903 Springfields, Kar98k and 1909 Mausers, Swiss rifles and carbines, Swedish Mausers, the M1 Garand, L1A1, British Enfields. Well you get the idea. What do you good folks prefer? All the best...

My favorite is my M1 Garand, a Springfield Armory mfd in 1937. I'm looking to get a Swedish M96, and for War of Northern Agression re-enacting, a 3-Band Enfield, or 1841 Mississippi rifle.

Only picked up and kept a few...mostly "fun guns". No4 .303, T-38 6.5Jap, couple of SKS's (may or may not count...neiter were used in anger), guess the 50/70 Rolling Block could fit in as Mi. Surp. (and if it does, the M67 Danish would fit in as well), CETME...several as issued handguns.
But when I just want to unwind and not get to serious, just relax and bounch a tin can along a levy...keep a rebuilt 9mm Largo 'Destroyer'...little rifle just doesn't let you get too serious.

Heck where do I start! Like my Jungle carbines of course there are my tanker Garands (modified surplus), I have a Finish M-39 set up with the russian sniper scope that shoots sub-MOA. 03A3,Swede's, K98's, SKS's, MK4 and my latest is a Swiss K-31 that shoots pretty darn good!! I like playing with these old guns they are inexpensive and fun to shoot. One of my Jungle carbines is a 308 I set up with a sout scope and the thing is great!!!
Have three types that have been made into sporters in the safe - 38 Swede (2), 1917 Eddystone and a 1908 Brazilian Mauser.
As you can see, I'm not real choosey which action to use.

My favorite is a LATE war production Arisaka in 7.7mm, what a dog. I traded a cop friend out of it in the 70's, and learned a lot of what I know about reloading with it. The forend wood was splintered, so I shortened it, refinished it, polished up the action, and started loading ammo.
In the mid 80's, I got a wild hair and threw it in the car on the way to the range. My first three-shot group at 100 yards was .75", I bagged it up and swore I'd never do that again!
I still hoard 30-06 brass when I find it, for reforming to 7.7mm, anyone else do this? I heard it was marginally unsafe, but I usually pitch them after two firings, and haven't had any problems. Anybody else love a gun this ugly?

They are right, it is marginally unsafe...the Jap chamber is usally a good bit larger at the base, and you'll see a good bit of case swelling where the solid web and cases walls meet (about 1/3" up from the base).
But people do it all the time...and while it makes me uncomfrortable, I've done it as well.
The 7.7 in my case was a gift. Contractor found it in the attic of a house being gutted and rebuilt, proably leaning muzzle down aginst that wall for the last 40 years. The last 6" of barrel were a red-ruin from dampness, but the rest of it was decent...un ground, with dust cover. Made a shooter out of it, played with it for a bit, and gave it to a friend for his boat. Do go out fishing with him a couple of times a year, and once in awhile will shoot somthing that needs a little "limbering up" before taking it aboard. MAy load 1 box of rounds a year...from 30-06, but loaded to 30-30 ballistifcs (max. range is usually four feet). No worries about reloading, the empties go overboard.

Gil,
I have 7 long arms and a Model 1911 Colt pistol,that are all ex military arms,but I'm not a 'Collector',I'm just a 'Shooter'.
That's why my favirite is my 1894 Springfield Krag,that I bought for 20 dollars,in 1960.
It's the best Whitetail Whacker that I've ever had my hands on.
