Anyone shot the Remington 30-30 Accelerator? Have to use caution because their pointed. But they are 55gr .223 with a sabot. Published velocity 3400 fps. Very flat to 200 yds. I'm thinking this would be an excellent varmit load. anyone?

They shoot about as well as the riofle shoots "normal" factory ammo. They do get near the ballistics claimed, but grouping isn't any better (and usually a bit worse) than any other 30-30 factroy load. Can get lucky, and if you've the urge can try a box and see if you won the accuracy lottery.
At the range you can conncect, the effect is about like a .223.

The bullet that refuses to die and should. Saboted rifle bullets. Tupperware a good choice for food but a poor container for a bullet. Think of melting plastic in you bbl. Get into hand loading and reload the 100 gn and 110 gns over 37gns of BLC2. That old 30-30 will sing a new tune.

The accelerators grouped quite well in a Marlin 336 carbine I had years ago - right about 1.5 inches as I recall. The biggest problem I had was that they printed VERY high. I ran out of sight adjustment, and never did get them to print where it would do any good. I just shot up the rest of the box and forgot about it. I wish they had printed closer to regular weight bullets, because the size of the group was impressive.
I tied this unique ammo when it first came out. But could not get a group tighter than about 3 inches at 100 yards. This accurasy level is inadequate for prairie dog shooting. But my brother and I nailed a couple coyotes with this ammo and it killed 'em dead with first shot.
Factory ammo has improved since the late 1970's. I'd try this stuff again except I have a heavy barrelled Savage in .223 that does everything I want it to do.
