Looking hard at a 1894FG (current manufacture) .

Two questions -- First , is the advertized Microgroove
1 in 20" twist ; barely adequate , prettygood , or excellent ,-- to stabalize heavy-for-caliber hardcast bullets like the 265 and 280 gr. Beartooths ?

Secondly , -- Because I think Marlin made a poor choice when they opted for Microgroove instead of Ballard Deep-cut , ( please tell me I'm wrong , and that Microgroove will shoot these heavy hardcasts with excellent accuracy ) , I'm looking forward to any hands-on opinion on the 1894FG , out-of-the-box. accuracy .

I've got a whole system of .41 Mag Handguns and want to chop the 94FG to 16 1/2 inches , shorten the stock a bit , and make a short light backpack carbine out of it .
Not interested in lighter , jacketed bullet use .

Thanks for any and all input . ----- MMCONCOLOR

mmconcolor - I haven't shot any of the beartooth's yet, but they are on order. I can tell you this about my 41 FG. It shoots the Federal 250 Gr. cast hunting bullet like a house a fire!! The first time out of the gate I ghot a 3 shot 50 yrd. group of .44. With two of them almost inside eachother. Needless to say I'm overjoyed and hope the BT 265 Gr. load I work up will be better. Marshall says his bullets are great in this gun. I will post when I get results. Ron

Ron,
Have you shot it over a crono to get any Velocity info? I too am considering buying one of these and want to shoot Federal Cast Cores, since I can get them at a very steep discount. I can buy them, shoot them then reload the cases.
