I just got given a rifle and from what I can tell its an Enfield III 1941 .303. Basically im after any information on this gun, was it used in the war, any quirks with it, anything that makes it stand out? Cheers.

Also just a question regarding scopes and mounts. Im looking to buy some mounts for it (it already has a rail for the mounts) which are said to be "14mm dovetails". Is that the radius of the inside of the mount? I measured the circumference of the part of the scope where a mount would go and that came to around 88mm. If 14mm is the radius it would work out to be about 88mm in circunference.

I'm no expert but your rifle is probibly a short magazine lee-enfield mark III* (SMLE). Short being the rifle not the magazine. Made from 1907- this was the rifle of the british empirer and saw 2 world wars. Yours is one of the later rifles made during the second world war. It would be hard to say if it was used in action. They were made in countries all over the place.

The 14mm dovetail is probibly the width of the dovetail. Just buy a set of rings to suit, your scope is probibly 1".
