Well, I've been waiting for about 2 weeks now for my new 1894, and found out today it should be in sometime next week. I can't wait to get to the range and try her out. I have been very impressed with my 444marlin, (except for the sights and the trigger). For those of you that have a 1894SS what factory brand of ammo works best in your gun. I have heard that some Marlins are picky about what cycles well through them, and I know my 444 shoots the 270gr much better than the 240s. Also, should my POI change much when switching from 44spls to 44mgs? I'm afraid I have been infected with Marlinitis and now i'm selling things to buy more Marlins and more stuff for them, for me nothing else is as fun to shoot as a lever. FYI i have some stuff for sale listed in the trading post if anyone is interested.

Matt,

Sounds like the bug has bitten you pretty hard! Be careful, you might become a levergun junkie.

It's all fun stuff, and after all, shooting supposed to be fun!

God Bless,

I too have been infected but I'm really working on a cure. I hope they arrive in a couple of weeks.

Walmart sucks!!, but I shouldn't have expected them to be as reliable as my local gun store. It has now been over a month since my 1894ss was suposed to be in and it is still not here. I haven't put any money down on the gun, so thats good for me. I went in the other day and told them they would just have to eat the order if and when it came in. Oh well, live and learn. I still am looking for a 1894, if you know of one for sale used let me know.

Ain't it funny how when the "Big Dogs" like Wal-Mart manage to kill off the little guy in a given area or location that suddenly all the great service goes out the window.

Anymore I don't even look at the firearms for sale at the big chain stores. Even though I have to pay a few $ more at one of our local shops; I'd rather give the money to the local guy who'll order what I want through a direct distributor, or let me put the gun in layaway for up to a year if need be.

Well I just found a used 1894 .44 mag. with 300
rounds of ammo.
It has a straight stock with a brass saddle ring & peep sight. Condition is excellent.
I tried to tell my wife that it was for her.
Made in early 70's. All for $250.00.
When she held it up to her shoulder I tried to explain how good it looked on her, and fit well and how it matched her hair. She told me that I was sick, sick and that I could get it if I sold one of my Remingtons.
It sure looks good next to the other Marlins.
I think it was a great deal.

Hand in there Mattpair !!!!

mattpair--- I am the PROUD owner of an 1894 Marlin"Limited". I have tried alot of bullets in this weapon and it seems to like the 300gr.Hornady XTP's the best. My weapon has the 16"bbl and that might make a diffrence as to which bullet it likes. It will shoot medium to hot loaded 44special to the same point at 50yds as my hot loaded 44mag. My particular weapon likes the Hornady 265gr.out of a 44 special far better than the 240 grainers. I would suggest that sometimes we all get too particular as to the group that out weapons will put 5 shots into. We all strive for the best BUT realistically to me a 3-4" group at 50yds. is what i need for a quick humane kill on any animal that i will ever hunt with the 1894. Thats just one opinion.---GOOD SHOOTIN'---pruhdlr----P.S. My 1894 will put 5, 300 grainers into 2" at 50yds.

I was talking with my local gunstore owner the other day about levers and he explained that manufacturer's sell a lower quality gun to chains like Wal-Mart. I don't know about you but I am a local businessman and have to compete against the superstore format. SUPPORT YOUR LOCALLY OWNED BUSINESS unless of course they are just trying to rip you off! You know you will get great service and if something goes wrong with your gun they should help. I bought a shotgun many years ago from Best! The gun was a Savage shotgun. It was just plain retarded. I had to travel 30 min. away to send it back to the factory to have the same problem, it didn't cycle properly. I tried to return it but you know what? Best! didn't have a used gun license. I was stuck. Do you know why I traveled 30 min away? I think I saved $20 bucks! WHOO-HOO!
