I don't know whether to pass on this or not. It is about 80% with a few minor scratches and "dots" (not many) of unblued areas on the receiver. Wood in good shape, showing very little wear. It has been drilled and tapped unfortunately on top of the receiver (I don't believe they were D&T from the factory in '51) and there is a Redfield Tracker scope on it. I tried to get him to sell it to me without the scope for a reduced price but "no go". I really have no use for the scope and know nothing about Redfields. He won't budge off of $270. It seems a bit high but then again I haven't seen a whole lot of them in the 32 Special either. What do you think? JOHN

by the way.....why do they have the S.C. on it (standard carbine, I presume) instead of the "CS" they print on them now?

Depends on the part of the country that you're from. Here in Montana $270 or more is what you'd pay.
I know in the Northeast, Midwest or even down South prices are usually $50 to $100 less.
RC-regular carbine, SC-sporting carbine!

The Redfield is an OK scope. For the money you are not getting hurt. If you are not interested in the rifle send me a PM with the phone number of the guy. Thanks.

Buy, it then sell the scope for the price of a box of bullets, dies, primer and powder. Slug the bbl if the groove is over (.321 nominal) say .322 or .323 you have the option of shooting 8mm round nose bullets. If .321 then you have hornady or speer 170gnrs. When looking for cast bullets, ask for .321 or .322 made for the 32-40 which shares the same bbl groove dia of .321. Don't believe the old tale about the .32 being a blackpowder cartridge, it is just that a tale. The .32 WS is a newer cartridge than the 30-30 win. All in all you will like the cartridge if nothing else as a piece of americana, history that refuses to go.

I would get it for that price.I just payed $225 for a 336CS made in 95.I love the 32 WS and don`t think you can go wrong for the price.the redfield scope might be a bit out dated but im sure it will be one real good shooter. They don`t make them like that one anymore.

Factory D&T started in '56. If it is in good enough condition for you, buy it. Remove the scope and mounts, sell them on Ebay. Then a good gunsmith like many who are unsung and many who are well known, can fill the holes in the receiver, if you like, and machine the receiver so you'd never know it was d&t'd.
Selling the extras on Ebay will defray the original cost of the Marlin.

BOUGHT IT! He didn't come down in price but I sold the scope right there in the shop for $70. Still a bit more than my usual threshold of $200 but I thought how many nice old Marlins do you see in a .32. So I got it---can't wait to shoot it.
Hey, I got the same vitage Marlin 336 in a .35 (1951) and it is factory tapped on the left side for a receiver site. This one is not??? Can anyone explain this to me? JOHN

Saw a model 36 in 32 special for $800.
Nice case colored receiver.

Sounds like a good price, I wouldn't sell my 36 Sporting Carbine (1/2 Mag) that cheap. With a 170 grain load it is just the ticket for White tail. I used it in Utah one season, and got a nice 6 point Mule Deer. They are not long range guns, but do quite well at up to 150 yards.

That's what Ruger charges for some .22's. I don't understand rifle pricing....

That is very odd, I have two made in 1949 and both are tapped on the left side for peep sights. Yours has been tapped for a scope so just get the newer top mount receiver sight made that way. All in all a good buy. Enjoy it.

I have a nice box of Winchester silver tips and no plans to buy another 32 special. The deal on that round was it could be reloaded with black powder, but came loaded with smokeless powder. I found them on par with a 30-30. Here in my neck of the woods, any marlin other than a 30-30 and sometimes a 35 Remington costs more. I would trade off the scope and buy one that says made in Denver on it, a nice 2X or 4X if you are hunting in broken country
