im 16 and looking at the marlin 1895g and the marlin 1895gs im not sure which one i want to buy i plan on hunting all over with this gun hopfully even africa one day i need your opinions on whitch is beter i live in alaska right now and during hunting season it can be cold and wet here but you also probly dont want the glare from the stainless and i would also like to know some of the bigest rounds you guys have shot with these guns specificaly the 520gr. garret hammerheads and if they cycled through them well and if you guys know any othe good big loads any info is usefull.

Grizzly, first of all, if you post this on the Big Bore forum you will get your replies (and it is big bore, not big "boar," the misspelling probably caused people to think this was about using 1894 models on feral pigs.

The Garrett 540s will cycle fine. For Alaska, my choice would definitely be the stainless version, and look until you find the most "brushed" stainless of the bunch as the glare will be less.

what do you mean by brushed is it somthing done to the metal or is it a used gun.

It is a texturing of the metallic surface so the glare is not as extreme.

would you have a gunsmith do it of does it come from the factory this way.

do you have one if so does it give off a real bad glare because i dont plan on mounting a scope on it.
