I’m looking for scope mounts for the rifle that I take when I have to fly to a hunting trip. I was considering the Leupold QR or QRW mounts because the last time I traveled, my scope mounting tools were taken away from me by airport security (poor planning and packing on my part).
Does anyone has any experience with these mounts? Are they worth getting? If they are worth getting, which are better, the QR or QRW mounts? Would anyone recommend anything else?
Thanks.

I can tell you I have them on my model 70 Winchesters, which go with me to Africa now and then. They are not cheap, and make sure you get those that are made of steel OK.
They do work as far as keeping the gun zeroed on a target at 150 yards. Now that is staying inside a 4 inch bulls eye. One rifle is a Rem. 416 and the other is a .375 Wheatherby cal.
I have just installed a set on a .475 Caliber rifle as well, for when you get into the thick bush. The scope simply pops off and you stick it in your hunting vest or jacket pocket until later.

I love the Leupold Q.R.W. mounts and would use nothing else on any thing that had a pair of factory sights. I don't care for factory sights but love them for a good backup in case I loose my scope as I did once on a trip after sliding down a mountain. I just removed the scope and the hunt was still on. I have found them to always put my zero back to where it was before I removed them. I just ordered a new pair for my new 375 H&H with out a second thought to the price as the quality is worth it.

I have a set on my 45-70 Marlin guide gun. They are 100% repeateable. I can hit an 8" plate at 200yds with the scope, take of the scope, hit it with open sights and put the scope back on and hit it agian. I even dissasembled the rifle to cleaned it and then using up the last of my hunting ammo was able to hit it agian. I've alwayse been told not to trust them but I do.

I have been using the Leupold QR rings and bases for years. I have a custom REM 700 308 WIN that has three different scopes, each sighted in for different load/distance. I also have one set on my custom REM 700 222. These guns fit in the safe alot better when you can take the scopes off and store them on the shelf.
The QR rings have never failed me, yet.

I've bought a set for a rem 700 LA and B&L 3000 3x9 that would not sight-in Later I put them on a 700 SA and they worked great - swapping between a 3x9 and a 5x15 B&L scope.when i change them only about 1/2 off if any.
I have the QRW's on my Savage Scout rifle in .308, so I can easily take the scope off and put it back on as I desire. I haven't been able to detect even close to 1moa difference from the initial zero to where it shoots today after the scope has been removed and replaced probably a dozen times.
I also have the QR rings and bases on two rifles, a .35 Whelen AI(M98) and a .340 Weatherby(MKV). I haven't removed/replaced these as many times, but have seen no appreciable (less than 1 moa) change in zero with either rifle. Both of these rifles have signifigant recoil so I don't see a problem with strength. The rifles others have listed here would be an even stiffer test of durability than those I mentioned, so I don't think strength is a concern. I like to be able to swap a hunting scope for a higher powered scope for load development without the messing around.
