A husband and wife and two young children come from the big city to visit the husband's father on the small farm where he lives alone.

One day, the grandfather watches the two grandkids playing out in the yard, while he rocks in his rocker on the weathered front porch. Suddenly, the 7 year-old boy looks at his grandfather and says, "Grandpa, can you make the froggy sound?"

The grandfather thinks for a few seconds and replies, "Well no, David. I don't think I can."

David frowns, shrugs his shoulders, and goes back to playing.

The next day, the same thing happens, except this time it's the 6 year old girl. While the kids are out playing and Grandpa's watching, Jennifer turns suddenly to the old gentleman and asks sincerely, "Grandpa, can you make the froggy sound?"

The grandfather frowns slightly, thinks for a few seconds, and says, "Well no, Sweety, I don't think I can. David asked me that yesterday, and I said no. Why do you two want to know if I can make the froggy sound?"

Jennifer looked at the her kindly old grandfather matter of factly and said, "Well Mommy says as soon as you croak, we can all go to Disneland!"

I heard this joke Monday evening at my high school daughter's academic awards banquet. It was told by one of my high school teachers from about 1975, who was the guest of honor and speaker, someone I respect completely. This dignified gentleman is over 80 years old. He told several jokes that had to do with aging, and in the context of that situation, they were very funny. I guess you just had to be there.
