Saw this old timer at a local pawn shop. It was a bit rough but certainly all original. Not a collector so I know little about the 92 and nothing about the 25-20 cart. What can you tell me about it and approx. worth. He had a pretty hefty price tag on it. JOHN
By rough, what do you mean? Is there a lot of rust, or is the bluing or other finish just gone? If the out side pitted and the wood is beat up I doubt it would bring more than a few hundred dollars. Is it a rifle or carbine? What is the barrel length? Oct or round? There are too many variables to establish some accurate idea of value.
I have two '92 SRCs. One is in good condition with a dark and slightly pitted bore. The other is in fine condition with a bright and shiny bore. Both are equally accurate. The 25-20WCF is very forgiving when it comes to bore condition. I would, however, refrain from purchasing a gun with mechanical issues or a "sewer pipe" bore.
Please provide as accurate a description of the gun as you can. At least some approximate value can be determined through a good description. Also, what IS the current asking price?

It is a carbine, round barrel. Alot of the blueing is rubbed off and there are "pinhead" specs of rust on the receiver, mostly all over. Did not look at the bore---no light with me and I really wasn't interested in the gun, just curious. The butt has a metal curved "pad" that is obviously original because it wraps around the wood top and bottom. The price was $799!!!!!
Glad your not interested because the price is considerably out of line for a '92 in the condition you described. To some folks the .25-20 is the least desireable caliber in that model. I just enjoy shooting the little devil. My carbine with lots of blue, no rust and a great bore cost me $500. a few years ago. That was here in Ca. where these guns usually command a hefty price. It seems that this feller on your end needs a little educating. Some people think that they have a great rarity whenever an older gun comes along.
