Does anyone know if you could order a barrel from Marlin that is only drilled/tapped for the front sight, and not dovetailed for the rear, or would I have to go to a custom barrel from someone else. I was thinking about having a scout scope mount installed, and the barrel 'free floated' by Brockmans, or WWG and want the least cuts possible if I go this route. Any ideas?

I would think you should pose that question to WWG or Brockmans, they probably could get you a bbl from marlin prior to all machining including chambering and install it while they are doing your conversion. If you are going to have that much done I would go with a custom bbl as well, and specify a XXX air gaged bbl of the groove diameter you want.
