I'm getting back into shooting/reloading after 7 year "break".ex with attitude gave away enough of my reloading gear that I'm not committed to any particular path. I like the progressive notion of cranking out some loads and going to the range.BUT I load .41 mag(no question here) .357 Herret, 7x30 Waters, and 10 mm.(near future) I'm pretty sure that Dillon is the only choice but I don't know enough about turret presses to exclude them. I run both cast and jacketed bullets( any heads-up here?) I will only progess. loads that I have already loaded and evaluated from single stage. If Dillon is my only progressive option for this range of oal's, then am I better off looking for used gear or going straight to the source.
I have nothing against sngl-stg. but I have finally converted enough brass that if I could run a couple hundred loads on a rainy afternoon instead of plodding through one at a time it would be good for me AND the next wifie.

Advise me co-shooters
Thanks in advance

I tend to agree with your Dillon idea.

I use a Lee Pro 1000 Progressive, but if you're changing caliber and going for some of the 'less common' rounds, I'd stick to a Dillon.

Solid purchase.

The Lee Load-All lists the .41,10mm,7x30. You'd have to do some surfing to find out about the .357Hrt. Not real sure of Dillon's offerrings, but I'm sure their beefy enough to handle the bottlenecks. Until I started browsing the forums, I never would've considered used equipment, but lately that seems to be a very viable option. Check out the home pages, a lot of folks are talking up Brian Enos(sp)? As being a big help with Dillon products. Good Luck + Good Shooting

Thanks for your input guys. First things first! I've picked up a used Lee Turret a/i and some other stuff. To refresh your bedraggled memories the .41 mag is a no brainer. I don't really think the the 35 Herret will present any problems but I have a little figurin and studyin to do in the charge die . The 7x30 Waters only poses the question of disengaging the auto-index. (I think?, I'll know more when I get an eyeball on it. I'll go ahead and get set-up for the 10.mm (purchase, late Apr.? If there are any tips or hints you want to throw my way I'd appreciate. (I know that there is a forum specicically for pistol loads. But I try to never ignore the voice of experience(anymore!
If she still smells like a teen-ager I don't want it. If she ain't got some brains and self-will what could she possibly be good for?

Thanks in advance

I Forgot... I Have A Mix Of Equipment. Rcbs Rockchucker With A Piggyback Progressive. Works Pretty Good, And I Still Can Pull The Piggyback Off For Single Stage Work. I Don't Know If There Is A Shell Plate For The 7-30.

You Should Check Out The Hornady Lock And Load Projector.i Had A Dillon Press And It Seems Like I Was Always Having To Call Dillon For Some Problem I Was Having, But That Has Been Several Years Ago. When Hornady Introduced The Projector I Sold The Dillion And Got One And Have Been Hooked On It Ever Since. When They Introduced The Lock N Load I Upgraded And Got One. I Have Loaded Over 10000 Rounds Of 10mm And 223 Ammo On This One With No Problems At All. Lock Stock And Barrel In Valentine Nebr. Carries Them At A Good Price Or Look On Ebay, You Will Probably Find One At A Good Price There.

Hey: I met my wife at the shooting range, she worked for one of the major firearms wholesalers. She had her own handguns ( a Target Match Colt Woodsman and a custom Colt 1911) AND reloading gear. We have been together 28 years.

I bought the Hornady progressive and it taught me that you really have to concentrate on what you are doing before you pull the handle. The weak link in all these setups seem to be the primer feeders. The Hornady handles rifle and pistol cartridges equally. I deprime cases (use a universal depriming die), clean the primer pockets and then reprime with an RCBS hand tool that uses the strips. This provides something useful to do while watching TV. Remove the primer knock-out pin from the sizing die and proceed to load. Handgun cases don't need sizing lube in the titanium nitrided Hornady dies (everything gets tumbled before repriming), rifle cases lubed with One Shot. No problems so far. I would like to try a Dillon next.

I really appreciate the input from all of you. I don't at present get here as often as I would like and REALLY do appreciate the ongoing feedback. WOW; a shooter, her own shootin' irons and reload stuff. I'm happy in my heart for you, getting to share a great sport with a great lady, God was/is looking out for you! I'll see how things work with what I have now, but because of the advice I'm not nearly as apprehensive about changing out in the future.

Redhawk, I've had my dillon 550, over 13 yrs now and am probable close to over 1 million loadings with it. 4 calls to dillion with problems, 2 were operator malfunction, the other were for something that had broke. New parts were in the mail next day free of charge (part of their no "BS" program. I load for 38/357, 9mm, 40 s&w, 41 mag, 45 acp, 223, 243, 7x57, 30/30, 270, 30/06 338mag, 45/70, and in the next couple of weeks will start loading for an sks. All my pistol dies have carbide sizers. like "Bullethead" I have a mixture of dies and other stuff. I use the universal decaper, then tumble my brass and clean out the primer pockets. It is an extra step but beings I just retired fulltime (again for the 4th time) I have the extra time to do it with. I got the strong mounts to raise it up, and yes it costs more for the shell plates, plus you need tool heads and powder drop tubes. Over the years I picked up a couple items at a time. Yesterday loaded up 200 rds 44 mag in a half hour, while waiting for wife to get ready to go to town. You might check around where you shoot and see who has what progrssive loader and see how they operate and any comments they have on them. (dint know I knew this many words) :D .

Jeff...

The simple Lee Turret press will serve you very well. The 7 X30 will require the Auto-Index to be disengaged, as will any cartridge with an overal length of 2.31" or greater, but that takes about 5 seconds. The 4-hole turret press is nice but there are good ways to streamline the operation of a 3-hole turret press with an additional turret plate.

If you need any of the Lee instructions for the press or other equipment they are available on the Lee Precision web site's "Instructions" (http://www.leeprecision.com/instruct/index.html).

When used with the Auto-Disk powder measurers, the press will make short work of any loading project. I use my turret press to load from the 25 Auto through my 444 Marlin.

You guys and gals must be good luck, blessings ? I am now seeing a semi-retired peace officer who enjoys shooting as much as I do. She dosen't reload but has a passive desire to learn. She is as much fun to talk to as all of ya'll but is much better looking. Time hasen't allowed much time for getting familiar with the turret press but I have some leave time coming up so near future holds probably more questions. Thanks again for your help and may God bless each of you with sub-moa groups and a clean bore.

Can't always tell from a username these days, but if you are a man she is way better looking. If any of you are ladies (I'd be suprised if not) no offense intended.
