View Full Version : spotting scope substitute?
In April, Radio Shack has a compact telescope on sale for $29.99. It includes three eyepieces for a maximum of 90x magnification. I saw it in the sales flyer tonight, and immediately thought - spotting scope... I was wondering what other people thought of the idea... On their website, it is called a desktop telescope.

Resolution may be a problem...magnification doesn't have to be all that high to see bullet holes at 200 or 300 yards, but distinguishing then in the balck is more about lens size/quality than strictly power.
Haven't had any experinece with the scope you mention...have had experience using "make-do" spotting scopes. Bottom line is you either spot the holds hiding in the black or you don't, if you can, then the scope is useful.
