I've decided that I want another rifle (notice I didn't say "need"). I have narrowed it down to either a .223 or 22-250 bolt action. The complication is that I am a lefty, and hardly anyone but Savage has a decent selection of lefty rifles out there (can't afford to go the custom shop route). I am a bit skeptical of their Accutrigger, though. Has anyone here had any experience with them, good or bad?

You need not be skeptical, it's better than anything you will find on any rifle that costs up to twice as much or more. I realize it's a broad statement, but it is only my opinion.

My next bolt gun will ba a savage with the accutrigger. My friend has a couple in his shop and i have tried the triggers on them. Hands down it was the best trigger in the shop. And the savage is no slouch when it comes to accuracy.

Go with the Savage. The ACCU-Trigger is a good deal. It works as all triggers should. Sometimes Savages are a little rough around the edges, but they are a good value, and the owner can afford to do a little smoothing out on the rifle at the low price he pays. Savages are known to have good barrels and with their pillar bedding, some of them are quite accurate. On occasion the barrels are a bit rough, and quicky accumulate bullet jacket fouling. This can be cured by hand lapping the bore or fire lapping. Over the years I have been amazed at the accuracy of some of the ratty old Savages I have seen show up at the club. I have helped a lot of hunters sight in before deer season, and those Savages do better than a lot of the other more expensive rifles. Even the old '99 lever actions often out-shoot the bolt actions. Lever action haters will call me names for saying that, but it's true.

The Savage accura trigger is a affordable moa benchshooter for sure, get your self a Lee Collette necksizer, work a good load and shoot one ragged hole all day, You can give all the benchshooters a run for there money. I personally had a choice between a Remington 700 243win all weather and the Savage 243win accura trigger, I opted for the 700 due to the 700 has a well know field tested rifle and being all weather, matt finish synthetic stock, not comp bench shooting, just downing coyotes;) The 700 is a tack driver as well, both are affordable rifles that perform very well for the money. Bought mine at Wallyworld for $379.00... Aim small hit small. RAMbo.

This morning I dropped 2 buffalo with my Model 12 with accutrigger. The Savage accutrigger was one of the reasons I was able to put the bullet exactly where I wanted it. It is a truly a fantastic trigger.

How does that "fin" sticking out the front work? It looks to be very annoying. Does it have resistance? It looks like you could trip a light trigger accidentally while taking up the "slack" (for lack of a better term).

No perceptible resistance from the "fin" - you don't even know it is there. All it does is enable the trigger so a drop does not set it off.

maybe when you decide on that rifle, why don;t you shoot it in the postal match, great way to rack up some trigger time and get aquainted with a new gun

Never mind. I finally noticed the sticky up top. That's what I get for staying up past bedtime.

when you boil it all down like this it shakes out like this:
100 yard range
A rifle
5 rounds
an official target (downloadable from our gracious host, Beartooth Bullets)
an envelope
37cent stamp.
There is more detail in the sub-forum at the top of the rifle and rifle cartridge forum. But basically, you shoot 5 rounds at a target and mail it to me for scoring. the rules are posted in the forum. if you have any questions, either PM me or post a message on the forum. as far as rifle advice, i was all set to get a 10fp in .223 to terrorize the groundhog population with until the guy at the gunshop got a used custom remington 788 with a free floated douglas XX air gauged barrel and a 6-24x44 scope
