Hard to go wrong with a 10/22. They're around $200 on the low end, generally, and of course they can be customized to the hilt as desired.
Get the maid of honor a brick of .22LR and you're all set!!!

First thing I want to mention is the legality of buying a rifle and giving it to another person. In some states it's refered to as a straw purchase and you could have a problem with legal issues. I'd look into it.
To answer your question either rifle is acceptable out of the box but my 9422 is a bit more accurate. If you have a WalMart around I'd check them for the best price although if you have a Dealer around he'd be my first stop. He'll be able to answer all your questions.

being in Wyoming giving a gun to someone is not a problem the only problem is just cost and my best man has been a good friend for many years and I absolutly trust him. I was planing on checking at Wal-mart we only have used dealers in Laramie thanks for the advise I know he likes lever guns he's shot my '94 30-30 a few time so I guess i need to take him out with an auto loader

I have a Reminghton model 597 for sale
This is the synthetic stock and stainless barrel model, I have the box and all the paper work. I can email you pictures of it, if you want. I don't know if you were considering buying used, but it would save you a lot of money.
