I am having a 22-6mm built as a result of some interesting articles on this wildcat. I am using a 1 in 8 twist and plan on using 75 A-Max bullets and ultimately the new Scirocco heavy bullet (I have heard it will be 70 grains or thereabouts). In Texas this round is usually referred to as the 224 TTH and I understand it is popular there for Whitetail and hog hunting. I plan on using it in a similar fashion, except on Mule deer and Antelope.
Does anyone have any interesting info on this cartridge?
Seems to me you'd already have plenty of info if you're really planning to build this thing.
Winchester 64 grain and Nosler 60 grain Partition are good big game bullets. Most wild boars are plenty tough to topple and I'd go for more cartridge that this "super 22".

It surely is a bit light for hogs, but in Texas most hunting is from fixed blinds, at known distances.
Shooting a hog in the head is no real trick.
I'd try the 53gr. Barnes 'X' myself, were I so inclined to use such a cartridge....

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I probably won't be hunting hogs, if so it would be of the Javelina variety, which is quite a difference. I hear what you are saying about the barnes bullets and I agree since I have a 220 Swift that I use these with and it is deadly. However, the ballistics for the heavier bullets are pretty darned good at four and five hundred yards. I understand that a lot of the Texas hunters have used the A-Max and the Winchester bullet and have good things to say about their ability to down whitetails, so I figured they would be deadly on Antelope. To be up front, this is just another interesting project that I became immersed in and time will tell whether this cartridge lives up to its reputation.
I would like some input from someone who has a 22-6mm / 224 TTH about good loads and also any feedback on its viability as a hunting cartridge.
A friend topples antelope each and every October with his 220 Swift. But its slower twist does not stabilize either the Winchester 64 grain nor Nosler 60 grain bullets well. Accurasy is disappointing. However, the 52 grain Barnes shoots quite well in his Swift.
Personally, I prefer .243 for hunting 'lopes but each to his own.
Good hunting to you.

Yeah, as I mentioned, my Swift does great with the lighter bullets, but it doesn't handle anything from 64 grains up. That is reason I wanted to do the 22-6mm with a fast twist so that it would handle the Winchester 64's and upcoming Scirocco 70's. Also, the A-Max's. The latter bullet shows great ballistic characteristics and carrys well at four hundred plus yards, at least on the charts.

I know a guy who put some 64gr. PowerPoints through a few pigs, and they did OK, but this was in a .223 so quite a bit less velocity.
Should be OK at longer range, I would think.
Sounds like an interesting cartridge/barrel combo for 600-1000 yard shooting. If you ever decide to try your hand at extreme range, you'll be good to go with the heavy bullets. The case capacity, and velocity that goes with it, will likely stabilize the heaviest .22 bullets.
I can't say much for other shooters, but I get a big kick out of putting it in the black with a .223 at 600 yards and open sights. Especially if I happen to be able to do it repeatedly.
The 22/6mm sounds like the 5.56/57mm that has been used overseas for many years ! I believe that one of the reload manuals has the loading listed in their books ! Maybe Hornady's ! Also the 22 clark if i remember that one right ! JAGG

Ive Been Shooting Almost The Same Set Up For The Last 5 Yrs. Useing It For Target And Hunting Both. Excelent Target Rifle And Excelent Hunting Rifle. You Will Find Your Best Loads Around 44.5 To 47 Grs Of Vv165 Or 46.5 To 47.5 Vv170 , Rl 25 Works And H1000 Will Ultimately Be Your Best Powder For This Rifle With The 80 Gr Sierra. The Best Hunting Bullet That I Have Tried Bar None Is The 80 Gr Sierra.!!!! Most People Do Not Want To Hear This But It Is True {have Not Tried The Scirroco Yet} But It Will Have To Be Awsome To Out Perform The Sierras. Game That These Tests Were Done On Were Coyote, Deer, Wild Pig. I Tried A Lot Of Different Bullets Includeind Ones Listed Above But The 80 Sierra Out Performs Them All Do Not Use The Bergers Noslers Or Anything W/ A Light Jacket. And No I Am Not A Sierra Employee Or Salesman

Thanks a lot Wayne, that is what I was looking for. I had figured on RL 25 and hoped that H1000 would work since is is an Extreme powder and is pretty clean burning. So that's music to my ears! Also I really like VV 165, so that too is good news. Actually, I had not given much thought to the Sierra's but now I will. The only problem now is getting the gun finished and that will most l likely take a while as gunsmiths are always slow, but mine is sure and that is the important thing.
