I'm planning on taking a newly acquired 30-30 and having it converted to a 7-30 Waters. However, seeing as I am becoming enamored with 6.5s, I thought I would look into the possibility of making it into a 6.5/30-30. A quick Google search turned up a site the specializes in speciality ammo but there was no info on this caliber. Does anyone know if this wildcat has been made and by whom?
I have a 6.5 Bullberry, which they also offer in an improved version, in a TC Contender Carbine. This round is a 6.5/30-30, don't know if the chamber drawings would be the same as the round you mention.
There is some info about it on www.bullberry.com
I could probably take a picture of a loaded round if that would be of interest to you.
Like kciH says -
The 6.5mm Bullberry is basically what you're asking about. Used to have one, also.
The case is slightly shortened from full 30-30 length. It has a sharp shoulder resembling the AI type. It is a fine cartridge and should suit your needs just as well as a 7x30 Waters.
Only drawback - strictly a handloading venture. No factory ammo available, as with the 7x30 Waters.
