Found one at a pawn shop. It's older as there is no safety (I hate those things). The shop owner wants $550 (it has a bit of rust and has been used) but I know he will come down some. It's this worth the effort? I know I can get a stainless Guide Gun for that price brand new.

Thanks in advance.

First the rust would drive me off , then how much has this rifle been used in thirty years or so Is the barrel worn?
I would shop around. I bought one a few years ago with the straight grip ,no rust for about 275 American then traded it on a guide gun the following year .You should be able to get a 1895 CB for the price or shop around for a Davidson limited addition with the half round /half octagon barrel.
The crossbolt safety has never got in my way.

Thanks. I just don't like crossbolt safties. I grew up on a Marlin 336 Texan in 30/30. Got my first 5 deer with it (and that is why I like strait griped Marlins to!)

This guy is way out of line. He is at least 200 to high. He must figure that he needs to pay for his kids college education with one gun sale. Did ya get the song and dance about how rare the gun was, and how it was so hard to find? Thats why even with the rust it cost so much? You can buy a new rifle for less with out the rust. As far as not having the cross bolt safety, it aint worth taking a hosing like that. I have rifles with and with out the safety. I dont even notice the safety anymore. I never use it anyway, I use the hammer like it was intended. I would take the safety before I would bend over and let this crook stick it to me.

big med,

I agree. It would be a fun gun, but not at that price.

Thanks.

He's twice too high. Tell him you know where he can get a nice used set of tires for $1000.00.
