Has anyone taken a look at one of these rifles? I saw it in G&A magazine and thought that they were real nice looking. Almost like a scaled down 700. The only thing I wondered about was if it was available in .17 HMR? That is what I really want. That would be the ultimate gopher getter. Been thinking of trading in my little 597 and going with one of these 504's. Need some info on finish and quality.

vettelover,
I've got one on order for test and evaluation. Should be mid-May before I have hands on. I'll write a report and post it here and on my web site: www.rimfirenews.com. Initial reports from other writers is that it's a well made firearm and maybe just a bit pricey for what you get. We'll find out.

The rifle sure does look nice, and appears to be well made (great stock, solid receiver, no plastic). In Australia it will retail for about US$900 so it is not cheap (a model 700 BDL retails for about US$1000 in Australia). I think they have aimed to price it just below the main competitor (the Kimber .22LR Hunter model). I will pay this money if it feels as good as it looks, but I'll wait for the .17HMR.
The read from some other sources that this rifle will be available in .17HMR and .22WMR at a later date (and even .22 Hornet according to one writer). The receiver has plenty of length so it seems logical to do this. The thickness of the receiver also suggests that the .22 Hornet might be feasible. The local (Australian) distributor expects the magnums to be available in 2005.
I emailed Remington customer service and their response is below (not very helpful unfortunately):
"Information on the 2005 line may be available in December. The catalogs are normally not distributed until February."
