Please give me your best recommendation on a scout scope for my VZ-24 mauser (8x57). The primary use will be deer and hogs at less than 60 yards - secondary will be target shooting. Think (but not sure) I would like 1X to 2X for hunting and a variable would help plinking from the bench. Best I can measure, Eye relief needs to be between 9 and 11. My problem is I'm not finding much on internet - Pistol scopes seem to start eye relief at 11 to 12" and go up from there, Rifle scopes average around 3 to 4" and only go up to about 5" in some cases, IER scopes are few/$$$.
I've been looking for a 2x7 variable but have only come up with one at the needed eye relief and it would cost twice what the rifle did! I don't like the idea of going with a 1X, however at that power eye relief isn't a problem - That may be the way to go. Give me some options here if you please.

I had the same problem with my 8mm Mauser. Finding a scout scope that was cheap enough to put on the gun. I settled on a Chinese Nc Star hand gun scope at 4X. It worked OK, even came with a lit reticule. The problem I came arcoss with this setup was the scope mount. The rear sight mount area was wider than the scope mount. The scope mount was held onto the rifle by only two screws at the front of the mount. So the scope mount would "wobble" inside the rear sight area. Had to use some silcone sealent to fill in the area to get a tight fit.
