Switching to a rear peep will allow front sight use unless you install a nonstandard rear peep. The dovetailed rear just knocks out. A block is simple to make but not needed.

I rarelyreplace fronts so cant answer that part.

My 336 rear sight folds (forward) and is out of the way when I use my Lyman Peep with the stock front sight.

Williams makes a blank that slides into the rear dove tail. I like a twilight apature with the fifre sight.
