Got a question. I have a Ruger #1 and would like to put a low power scope on it. For this rilfe does one use a extended eye relief scope or shotgun scope? I'd like to either get a 1-4X or fixed 4x. The rifle is a heavy recoiler 45-70. Anyone have suggestions on a reasonablly priced scope? Preferably under $200.

Thanks,

Bill

Some people have had problems with correct eye relief and the No.1's. I'm not exactly sure why. All that I've owned have worn either Leupold or Swarovski (1) scopes and I've never had a problem with eye relief. You'll definitely want a good quality scope that has copius amounts of eye relief, though. It isn't a scout or shotgun scope type setup. It is made for regular rifle scopes.

I would highly recommend a Leupold, either 1-4x or 1.5-5x. I have 2 No.1's right now and they are wearing a 1.5-5x and 1.75-6x VariX-III's. I have no problem with proper eye relief of either. One of the No.1's just had a 2.5-8x Leupold just taken off of it (goes to another rifle) and had no issues with eye relief for it either.
