Gents,
One of my boys bought his young daughter a Rossi 45LC/410 single shot rifle. My read is that he is very pleased with it, and may want to use this gun himself to kick around and oppurtunity hunt.
I have talked to him prior about loading my Ruger Vaquero to the +P levels, and he has indicated an interest in doing the same for this rifle. Do you fellers reckon it will handle these pressures?
If you all have done this, or know of any references that I could steer him towards, I would be most grateful.
Thanks.
Steve

Hi Steve,
I have one in 357, and just ordered another in 44 magnum. They are also available in 30-06 so you know they can handle pressures higher than +P 45 loads. I would safely assume no problem. Just remember this rifle weighs just 4.5 pounds so the +P loads will be felt significantly in the shoulder. The Rossis are fun little guns, and a best buy.

Gents,
Am curious about the quality of the Rossi single shot. Realize that given the purchase price this is not going to be a Weatherby, but that is not my goal. Am interested in the combo rifle, particularly a single shot that is light weight, and accurate enough for big game out to several hundred yards. Please pass on some sense of the workmanship of these firearms, and thanks. warm today

Whitehunter35,
I hotrod my .45 Colt loads for my Ruger Bisley and my Marlin Cowboy. I'm using 21 gr WW296 under a 300 gr LFP with CCI 350 primers and Starline brass. This load gives 1150 f/s in the Bisley, and 1400 f/s in the Marlin. Pressure is supposed to be 30-33000 cup according to Ross Seyfried in Handloader mag, and the Hodgdon Manual. Hodgdon lists H110 max at 22.2 gr and 30,100 cup. H110 is almost a duplicate of WW296 so I looked at that as an OK for Seyfried's loads of WW296, and reduced by 10% then worked up to my present load of 21 gr WW296. If the Rossi is OK for the .44 Mag it should be more than strong enough for the .45 Colt in any but a .454 type load. The .44 Mag is a 35-40,000 cup cartridge, which is significantly higher pressure than the hot .45 Colt.

Hey mikey, what make bullet are you using. How reliably do they feed thru your Marlin? What kind of accuracy you getting with this load? Do you know what the rifling twist is for the Cowboy? I have an old Marlin with 1 in 38 twist micro-groove barrel, and just for giggles was considering casting up some 300 grain rn using the LEE mould with wheel weights. My fav powder for 44 mag is H110 been reloading 25 grains behind a 240 grain speer jsp, winchester brass, federal 350 primer for 20 years now, hot load that drops piggys like Thor's hammer.

I'm interested the same as Coldgoreload. How accurate are the Rossi rifles? A Matched Pair would be great but only if they're worth the money. I'm actually interested in the .308/12g set up.

Ganjiro,
I'm using Star 300 gr bevel base lead flat points. Right now I get them at my gun club, but am looking at the Lee 300 gr as well. The Marlin Cowboy has Ballard cut rifling as opposed to Micro-Groove, and I haven't checked the twist on the rifling, but none of the bullets are keyholing at 25, 50 or 100 yds. The accuracy at 50 yds is 2-2.5 " and at 100 yds is 4-5". this is with Lyman receiver sights, and my shooting. The bullets have two crimp grooves, and as long as you seat them to the second one they feed well. I tried some seated to the fist groove, and jammed up the rifle pretty nicely. They went into the loading gate slick as a whistle, but from the magazine tube to the lifting lever it jammed up pretty well. Took awhile to clear that one.

hello, this thread is a bit old, but I wanted to say that the rossi singles are VERY well worth the money. I have 3 and have another on the way and 5 barrels, I prefer them over the handi rifle. The .308 I have is a one holer, as well as the .22 lr .44 mag and .357 mag, the other is a shotgun inwhich i'm in the middle of making into a slug gun. and a 45/.410 is on the way.
