I'm considering an 8mm-06R AckImp on my Ruger #3 action.

Does anyone know of a source for either .30-06 basic brass with a rim, or an available European boxer primed case?

7X64R Brenneke is .007" too small at the base

buffler:

It looks like the closest you can get will be the 9.3X74R. It mikes .465" at the base and is 2.93" long. The 30-06 is .470" at the base, and 2.49" long. You might considder having the chambering reamer ground to those specifications. Another posibility is a 8X65R Brenneke chambering. Case capacity of the Brenneke is 4.55 CC's while the case capacity of the 30-06 Ackley improved is only 4.43, and 4.40 on the regular 30-06. Hope this helps.

444 Marlin begins life as a 30-06 blank with a rim formed before it's drawn. The first 444s were headstamped 30-06. Powder capacity is almost identical to 30-06s... There's quite a few rimmed wildcats on the 444 case.

EASY PEASY! ;)

Here's a picture of just three of a dozen maybe?

"This is a picture for comparison of the 308 Bellm, which is for the T/C Contenders and the H&R/N.E.F. single shots. The middle picture is of the 308 Bellm #2 which is for the Encore and H&R and the one on the right is the new 308 Alpo....

Using one of my favorite powders for most of the short barrels H-4895 I weighed the empty cases first and then filled them to the bottom of the neck and weighed them again and here is what I came up with.

308 Bellm: 44.6 grains

308 Bellm#2: 52.5 grains

308 ALPO: 55.9 grains

As a side note and interesting observation, for some strange reason the 308 Alpo will fit in a 309 JDJ chamber and like wise, a 309 JDJ round will fit in the 308 Alpo chamber! Hmmmmmmm...Very interesting....

I bet you can get your 8mm Mauser or whatever you have converted to an 8mmX444-Alpo pretty cheap! You can even get the label side of the barrel engraved with the NEW Caliber. ;)

GOOD LUCK!

Clymer reamers prints for the .444 Marlin lists a base diameter of .472 and the .35x444 is .473.my largest unfired .444 Marlin measures .4653,a difference of .0077.

I have unfired .308 WCF{Winchester brand} cases that mike as small as .4637,the same as my 7x64 Brenneke. The .308 WCF reamer print calls for a .470 base.

Clymers print for the .357 Herrett lists a base diameter of .424.my unfired 30/30 brass mikes from .4132-.4163.

By the way,the rim is formed after the case is drawn but before it is formed.
