I have a Peerless, hammer, 10ga shotgun that I want to clean up. It has seen some hard times. I would like to know if there is a way to clean or refinsh the metal that will bring out the pattern of the wire twist in the barrels.
The gun seems mechanically sound, but I am not sure if Iwill load BP shells for it or not.

Just use 0000 steel wool and oil to clean it up, that should leave a nice pattern on the barrel. Before using anything, even black powder in your shotgun, have a competent gunsmith check it out. As old as it is, it could have internal defects in the barrel steel. sometime there are cracks that cannot be seen with the naked eye, and a good dye penetrant inspection is the thing. Put the dye on the inside of the of the barrel, and the developer on the outside. If there is a crack or a pinhole situation, the dye will bleed through and be seen on the outside. In any case get it inspected before shooting it.
