Any thougths it would work great in the model 7 for a nice light rifle for sheep humm! Shorter case than Winchester short mags and should duplicate the 264 Win Mag.
if not better.

Remington has reintrodiced the 6.5 Rem Mag in the M673 this year. I'm not much for the looks of the rifle, but tastes on these matters differ. It won't match .264WinMag, but the ballitstics are impressive none the less. If you where to have a compact rifle chambered for the two of them, I don' think the difference would be that great. The .264 WinMag wants a 26" barrel to show it's stuff. I bring this up because you mentioned the M7.

If your gonna rebarrel a model seven you might want to put a 24 incher on. I like the idea of the 6.5 rem SAUM cause it head spaces on the shoulder rather than the belt. It would make a dandy long range deer and sheep rifle. Good luck with it.

Put on the longest barrel you can it will help with the velocity. I like the 6.5s they seem to kill all out of preportion to their size.

Hi There! New to the board and nice to be here. I just finished up a 6.5 Rem SAUM. The platform was a Mod 7 SS and the barrel is a Shilen SS too. The reamer was done by D. Kiff[Pacific Precision] and the stock is one from Hawaii. It weighs just at 6lbs loaded and scoped. The idea was to see if the SAUM case would meet or beat the 264 Win mag with the normal 24-26" barrels. The barrel on the 7 is a 22 1/2" incher. Velocities and accuracy have shown it to be everything I had hoped it would be. Initial loading with the 140 Sierras shows no problem reaching the 3200 fps goal set as criteria for the project. Accuracy was in the 3/4" area and this was from a rest on the hood of the truck as the range where I usually work loads has been closed to high-power shooting. I have not tried any of the newer powders that are being made for the "short Magnum" cases. Velocity was done with the old Chrony and set at 8ft from the muzzle. The rifle will be sent to Chas. Benke in Oklahoma for further testing. He was the writer that diid the "264 Thor" article a few years ago in Handloader Digest. I`ll try a few more loads with the Hornady 129s and the Nosler 125s before shipping the gun out. Recoil is very mild and inoffensive. I`ll put one of my patented brakes on it before it goes to Charley as it`ll help the testing a lot. This should make a **** of a good mountain rifle for elk, goats and sheep. I am very interested in seeing just what the accuracy will be like with other powders.. Info will be posted as it come in.

Aloha, Mark[in Or]

Patience man, patience!!!

Thought you were going varmiting this weekend?

I was but the mesquitos are just too bad. The wind died down Saturday evening and the bugs liked to have carried us away. It ain't worth it!!
Filled two feeders, and caught some fish. Came home just in time to pack some more stuff.
