Well boys and girls, I think i've decided on one of two pistols for my next purchase (although it will be a while before I actually go thru with it.). I was at my favorite local gun shop yesterday after work and they had a Glock 21, a 22, and a 27 and a Springfield XD subcompact. When I handled the 22, the 27, and the Springfield, IT GOT ME TO DROOLIN!! Just out of my curiosity, Which one do you all like best?? Out of the Springfield or the Glock?? If it's Glock, which model and caliber?? Another question I have is does springfield have plans to make an XD subcompact in .45??? The Glocks I'd like to have are the 20, 21, 29 and the 30. I'm leaning mostly toward the 29 and 30 (more toward the 30 actually. What can I say? I'm a .45 man.) because of the compact size. How expensive/available are spare clips for them?? I've heard great things about Glock's warranty/repair/customer service departments, but how are Springfield's?

Ok let's get to the rat killin'. (this oughtta be a good discussion:D)

This is a tough decision. All that you have menioned are excellent handguns.
I have the 21 and love it, no problems at all, its my IDPA gun that I shoot most. Not as good for concealed carry as the compacts though.
My neighbor has an XD40. It is also very accurate and reliable, I think it is about a hundred bucks cheaper then the Glock also, but as far as I know doesnt come in 45, if it did I would probably have one.
If you dont go with the 45 I would pick the XD40, I think they are every bit as good as a Glock and they cost less. Just my 2 cents.

Springfield 's xd45 will be in .45GAP. Not out yet tho, and it will be a long while before the .45gap subcompact is out. The xd40 subcompact is now available. I would hole heartedly recommend you buy an XD. I have a 4"(service) xd9 and my buddy has a 3"(sub) xd9 and both have been excellent guns. The XD .45GAP was introduced at the SHOT show but it ain't on the streets yet. www.hs2000talk.com for more XD info.

I just bought an XD9 Service Model (4") after shooting both the XD and a Glock 19 at the range. I liked the grip on the XD much better than the Glock. I've only had it a few days and have shot about 300 rounds with it with no problems using both WWB and UMC ammo. As with most firearm preferences, go with what feels best when you handle the gun.

Get the XD. It's better looking than the Glock.

Well boys, I think I've decided. I'm gonna get a Glock 30. I like the 45 ACP round, and since Springfield is only gonna come out with a 45 GAP, and I don;t know how readily available the new cartridge will be I decided on the Glock. Another thing that convinced me is Lasermax makes a laser sight for every Glock model except the 25 and 28 (These are Hi capacity .380 caliber Glocks that are not sold in or imported to the USA. Don't believe me?? Check out their website. I'll post the link below.). I'll get me a Glock 30 and a lasermax laser sight to go in it. Thanks for the info guys. I appreciate it.

This thread is from 2004, the statement that there was no .45 xd was correct when this thread was started.

My wife has a .45GAP in the Springfield XD that she loves, It will shoot every type of bullet that I have bought or reloaded for it. It is right target all the way to 25 yards. I have taken it out to see how many rounds it would take for the dirt build up to jam the weapon and after 250 rounds I gave up, it still was smooth as silk.

Stick with the XD. Great pistol. I have a 4" service 40 and have used it as my duty weapon for the past 2 years. It's been flawless - went through certification with this pistol twice and shoot it every month on the training range. Have put close to 5,000 rounds through it with one (1) failure (turned out to be ammo). The 45 version is available in ACP and has an improved finish, so you can forget about rusting. It also has an improved recoil spring and is easier to assemble/disassemble than just about any pistol I've seen.
