Hey guys, a little help or an opinion, anyway.

I'm looking for a good belt holster for a 4 5/8" Ruger Blackhawk. Something secure, good coverage, not too bulky (not a flap holster). High ride, strong side, lined. I can't seem to find much out there for single actions except Cowboy Action oriented stuff. I'm talking about something like the old Bianchi 1-L model or similar. Any suggestions?

Zwicky,

You know, I had the same trouble with my Vaquero, and was looking for that Bianchi holster that you are asking about. Didn't find it, and I settled on one of the cheap utility Uncle Mike's, which fits pretty well.

I am not sure how durable this is going to be, and its not much to write home about, but a fellow can wear it cross draw, or strong side hip, and it holds onto the pistol pretty well.

Good luck.

I bought a leather holster from Midway for about $30.00, that turned out to be a pretty good holster, much better than I thought it would be for the price.

Same problem, same answer as previous poster. They aren't very pretty, but the Uncle Mikes was available and holds my Black Hawk secure for deer season.

I did take mine to a shoe repair shop and had the belt slot rotated about 45 degrees. This way I can wear it cross-draw, and while seated the gun is comfortably in my lap for easy access.

I guess there're more cowboys, than outdoor people, cause this market doesn't seem very well represented by the holster makers. "Hunter" has always seemed a little too stiff/abrasive for my bluing.

Take a look at El Paso Saddlery.

I purchased a belt and holster from them for my Ruger SSM, and it is top notch.

Yeah, I looked at El Paso. In fact, I've got one of their belts I bought years ago. I may buy a holster to fit it. It's a 3" wide belt so most holsters wont fit on it. I had one of their 1930 Austin model holsters to go with it for a 4" N frame S&W.

Thanks for the reply.

Check out Ross leather their 11D holster is available for single actions. It is a high-ride thumb snap with an additional slot to allow cross-draw carry. Similar to the old freedom arms holsters. Tight Groups

I use one by Murray Leather Products, Aledo TX, that is a strong side, thumb break, flap type. It gives great protection for the revolver, and is really fast to get into action because of the thumb break. I use it primarily for my Bowen modified Ruger Bisley with a 5 1/2" barrel, but it will work for any 5 1/2" single action.

It sounds like Mike might have you fixed up, but here's another. I have a Blackhawk 4 5/8 in 41 mag with Hogue rubber grips. I carry it in a Triple K model 196 Carrylite thumb break at $30, but unlined. Good luck.

The Bianchi model 1L is in the Natchezss catalog. Order line is 800-251-7839, their on line is www.natchezss.com . The tom three persons holster that el-paso saddlery sells is very simular to the Bianchi holster you want and is my personal favorite for a single action revolver. hope this helps, Byron
