It is one of the most ask questions. What is the best gun? I already have SIG P229 and HK USP45 and absolutely love the HK it is my favorite combat gun.
Recently I tried at the range the new SIG 1911 GSR and GLOCK 35 and now I can not sleep. I have to by 3rd gun to my collection and can not decide witch one the 1911 or GLOCK. I am looking for something IDPA level any advice on the G35, pro and cons would help.

I LOVE my Glock, it is a great gun...BUT my 1911 feels like an extension of my hand, so much so I hate to put it down...

I am a 1911 fan, as you can see by my nic, I like the feel of the heavy metal and not plastic, I also like the USA names, Colt S&W, Springfield and Kimber, Think about it a 1911 has been around a long time , since 1911, it is time tested and time is the proof , Kimber, sprigfield and Colt my Favorites, just pick one

Friend, you are in a whale of a predictiment. Both of these guns shoot like there is no tomorrow, and they are roughly the same size.

The differences between the two are very slight, but they are there. I think that the Glock is simpler to operate, and generally more trouble free maintainence wise. The first time I fired any rounds through my GLock 35 was on the military 25 meter course, and I shot a 195 out of 200. These were the first forty rounds out of the gun, and I am sure I could have done better later if I had not turned this 35 into another 35, namely a 358 BLR.

The 1911, is much easier to shoot straight, but the manual of arms is much more complicated. I had to train with mine for along time, formally and informally, before I was comfortable carrying it like it deserves to be carried. I did shoot a perfect 200 with this gun on the 25 meter military course, and a 98/ 100 on the FBI course, but that was after many hours of hard practice. These weapons also require more maintainence, even the stainless models will show signs of wear and rust faster than a GLock ever thought about. Also, if you have your heart set on a 40 smith, 1911s can have digestion problems that a fellow won't see on a 1911/45.

Both are great, both are service gun reliable and target gun accuratte, both will give you yeoman service.

Sorry that I have not been more helpful.

Get a Springfield 1911...i promise you wont be disapointed! They will shoot circles around any Glock and wont melt if you feel the need to stick it in the microwave :o :D If your going to use it for every day carry, get the glock, otherwise i dont think you can beat a good 1911.

Sort of on the same subject ! But how do you weld or fix a broken or cracked plastic pistol frame ? Is there some sort of new glue that works on them ? I still don't like pistols that are made out of beer can metal ! If you can't beat someone over the head and knock them out with it ,then it's not a weapon , it's just a toy ! And why does plastic now cost more then steel ? JAGG

I think that most good 1911's shoot better, point better, and are more accurate that any Glock, any day of the week.

But, owning a 1911 is more labor intensive than a Glock. Glocks take abuse more and can be beaten and neglected and will still love you in the morning.

A lot of people also find the grip angle on the 1911 to be more comfortable, and I tend to agree with this.

If you enjoy tinkering and tuning, get the 1911. If you want something that requires no effort to own, get the Glock.

This is all assuming that you have shot both and personally like the feel of both guns.

Go with the 1911, Springfield to be exact. A S&W mod 19 would also be good (forgot, that was last post) :D I find the light weight of the Glock, and for that matter all polymer handguns, distracting. The muzzle flip is also unacceptable. The 1911 has proven its worth for almost a century, and many military units are returning to it. The Glock does not compare.

And, JAGG does make a great point. If you do run out of ammo and go hand to hand, I would rather beat my aversary over the head with real steel!!!
