Hi all, I received my update kit for my 3 hole Lee auto last week. Finally got around to setting it up last night but was not too thrilled with the plastic clamp and ratchet guide for the new square drive 4 hole auto index rod. The clamp was to be secured with a screw that had no nut and was screwed into a plastic no tapped end. The original clamp was cast aluminum. What gives?? The plastic clamp doesn't clamp too well for my tastes. I am going to get a longer screw and nut to attach the clamp. mack

All the four hole turrets use the same material. I've got 13,000+ rounds of ammo through mine without any problems and have friends with the same press with over twice that amount and no problems. I would use what came with the kit.

RanchDog, I understand that buddy, just making an observation on the change. I'll take your word for it my freind as I sure do not have the time invested as you do. Just can't figure why they'd go with plastic over the cast is all. I'm sure it will work out fine. Gonna be pushing some test loads through later this week hopefully. Thanks for the response...mack

I thought the same . Sure enough- the screw did not hold up so- I found an oversized one which threaded both haves together. Worked great but:
Be careful not to get any oil on the part or you will be seeing this part moving around on the shaft.
A replacement part was cheap and I used the oversiged screw fom the start. Another 3000 rds and counting.
I wished they had stayed with a metal clamp myself , but the design is better than the three hole turret.
Over- all after loading 38 spl. and 44 Mag in this press for ten years ,and replacing a worn out power dispensor once , I figure I got more than my money's worth out of John Lee
