What are your opinions? Good, bad, indifferent? Any warranty problems?
I am looking at a variable. Any info is appreciated.

Have a 3x9 Monarch that's mounted on a Swede 6.5x55mm. Thought something had happened to the scope as POI kept shifting. Took it off, boxed it up to send in for warranty work and installed another scope in the meantime. Same results. Found the scope mount was faulty. Replaced the mounting system, put the Nikon back on and things work great now.

The Nikon scopes compare favorably with the Leupold and Burris scopes in the same price range, in my opinion. Good clarity, no parallax and positive adjustments. That last is critical in good optics.

Nikon makes good scopes. I own a couple of them and have never had any problem with them at all. One's on a 17HMR, the other is on a .308, so they can handle the pounding. I have found that Leupolds and Burris' are "brighter," but it may be because my Nikons are 10+ years old, and the progress in optics has been tremendous. But, before you buy, get a Leupy and a Burris and peek through them side-by-side with the Nikon.

I have a 6.5-20 Nikon. Excellent scope. I'd by another, for sure.

I went the el-cheapo route and bought a $200 Nikon Buckmaster 3x9x40, I have put about 200 rounds (7mmRM) threw it now, so far I have no reason to complain. I do plan on packing it around in the woods chasing some furry critters, so when that test is over I'll let ya know how it goes.

I have had very good luck with the Nikons.

I have a Monarch and Buckmaster 4.5x - 14x. I buy the larger scopes with front adjustments.
I prefer the Leupolds but that $500 will buy two of the Nikons.

The difference is so minimal that I can't really tell.
I do not baby my hunting rifles and scopes. It bounces around in a jeep all year long, in all kinds of weather.
Sorta my own "field test" If they pass the Tom test, they're OK in my book.

Good scopes!

Good Luck,
Tom ( the Nikon field tester)

About 5 years ago I put a 2 x 7 NiKon on my 270 and hunted with it. It was ok, but I still prefer Leupolds. ;)

I have a Nikon scope also, and I love it. My setup is a Browning A-Bolt II Composite Stalker w/ BOSS chambered for 7mmRemMag ... Nikon Monarch UCC 3.3-10x44 w/ adjustable objective and Mildot reticle and a 1" tube. I mounted the scope on my rifle a couple of years ago w/ the Nikon rings/bases and have had no problems at all with it. It has built in target turrets that are covered by the screw caps, so making adjustments for holdover and holdoff in the field is simple. Part of what makes it simple is the scope really does adjust in 1/4 MOA increments as it should (I say this only because a lot of scopes don't, even though they claim to). Even with the pounding the scope takes from being on a magnum rifle, the POA has not changed one bit, and the light gathering is excellent. I would recommend this scope to anyone, especially when it only costs about $350.00. It's on par w/ Leupold and Zeiss as far as I'm concerned, but for a cheaper price (most likely due to not being as "famous" a name as the other two).

I know this thread is kinda old, but if you still haven't decided on a scope to get, I highly recommend this one in particular. Even the more experienced hunters at the camp that have used many different big name scopes seem to think this one is as good or better.

I also like the Nikon scopes. I have a Nikon Monarch 3-9x40 on my 308 Sako, and I have nothing but praise for it. It is great in low light, and the the clarity is excellent. A couple weeks ago, my brother and I were at the range trying out some new handloads with his 30-06 and my 270. We kept on grabbing my 308 with the Monarch scope in order to see where the bullets were hitting the paper at 100 yards. You just couldn't tell through our other scopes, but bring up the Nikon, and it was clear as day. This was at dusk.

When I get the money, I'm replacing my Simmons 4-12x Prohunter on my 270 Win with a Nikon, and my next rifle, probably a 223, will also be wearing a Nikon, unless a great deal comes along.

My brother was talking to a guy at the sporting goods store today while looking at scopes, and he said that they have seperate bins for each manufacturer's scopes that are returned. According to him, the Leupold and Nikon bins are always empty and the Bushnell bin is always full. He preferred Leupold, as a lot of people do, but he didn't have anything bad to say about the Nikons, either.
