Chose the Ruger GP-100 .357 Double Action. Was considering getting a glock but the revolver felt alot heavier to me and I thought that the weight might soak up some of the recoil. Liked the heavier feel of the Ruger over the S&W. Very happy with the purchase - shot 200 .38 special rounds through it and the recoil was quite manageable. I am going to try some .357 magnum rounds next time out.

Congragulations on the purchase. You won't be sorry, and as your subject heasder says, it's the "first" gun. :D Hopefully many more units to come and enjoy the Ruger. You'll notice a diffeance when you touch off the .357s, but won't be a problem.

Congrats on your first gun, a good one as well. The Ruger Sp is a solid revolver, one of my first revolvers many years ago, now the addiction begins, good luck and shoot safe. LOL...Aim small hit small RAMbo.

I would like to say that the GP-100 was my first revolver I qualified though the WV state police academy on it shooting a total 1800 rounds and also shoot 1000,s after and the gun was absolutely flawless it never failed me one of the strongest rugers I ever owned. I had more trouble out of a SRH 44-magnum that the scope cut outs messed up on. I will tell you you have made a wise chose have fun.

You have chosen well, Grasshopper! Did you get the 4 or 6-inch barrel? I've had both, and prefer the four, seems to carry and balance a little better for me. I'm more of a revolver guy, and have been reloading 38's and 357's for a good while, and think you might have a really good reason to take it up yourself. Just don't do it to save money, because that will never happen. But you WILL shoot more, and you WILL become a better shot. And that's a bargain in anybody's book!
BTW, you got kids? Hope so, because that gun will easily outlast you!

With all that brass, now you will have to start reloading, shoot more, reload more, buy more guns, shoot more, and reload more.....
