I just bought a bulgarian makorav and really like this little pistol. I was wondering if you folks think the 9x18 round is adequate for defense purposes? What brand and grain should I get for self defense? Thanks

Adequate is the in the eyes of the beholder - we've sure had plenty of discussion about self-defense calibers here! :)

Keep in mind that it's ballistics aren't real hot, between a .380 ACP and a 9mm, probably closer to the .380.

See if you can find Cor-Bon hollowpoints, and if the gun will feed them. They are usually one of the better loads available for any caliber.

Good luck.

Based on what I have read in various forums it is a little better than 380 and although acceptable, is about the minimum you would want to go. I also have a Bulgarian and like it very much. They seem to be pretty popular for concealed carry at this time.

1) dependable
2) controllable
3) concealable
4) accurate
5) cheap to shoot
6) extremely well designed and manufactured
7) a cinch to disassemble & clean
8) parts readily and cheaply availability
9) ballistics? Well it's **** sure worked for
a whole bunch of soldiers & police, hasn't
it...and for 60+ years? I've yet to see a
detractor who'd let me shoot 'em to prove
their claim that it's not a stopper.
