Years ago, I decided I needed a 22 fun-gun, ostensibly for hunting soda cans and other dangerous game. After shopping around awhile, I found a Colt New Frontier single action 22, with dual cylinders. There was also a Beretta 76 (?) target pistol in the case for the same price......so I bought the Colt! Totally impractical, slow to load/unload, harder to clean. Shot like a house afire, especially with 22 mags. Had a wonderful (Eliason?) rear sight, and made that delightful four-click cocking sound. As I said, totally impractical. Shot the heck out of it, got bored, and gave it to a sergeant as a gift. Yes, I was stupid even back then. Some things never change.
Do these guns ever show up at reasonable prices anymore? I have seen several that were commemoratives of one sort or another, usually unfired, in a wooden case, with price tags that rivalled SAA's. I'd love to find one of these for my son, to go with his Henry 22 levergun. (Every kid should be a cowboy sometime during his childhood.)
Should I just get him a new Ruger, or is it feasible to find a Colt for a decent sum? I like the Rugers, but I want him to have the same gun I did.
