I was thinking of purchasing a Taurus model 905 (9mm 5-shot revolver): http://taurususa.com/products/product-details.cfm?model=905CHSS&category=Revolver
I prefer to carry a revolver and wanted something that is inexpensive to shoot often and quick to reload. I have no experience with moon clips but they seem to be quicker and easier than using a speed loader. I do recall reading, however, that the clips are not durable and bend very easily which prevents them from working properly.
If anyone has experience using these, I'd like to hear your thoughts. Are they worth it or should they be avoided?
BTW, my other choice is a Taurus model 617 (357mag 7-shot).
Thanks.

I have a S&W model 25-4 45 acp revolver that uses moon clips. The 1/2 moon clips are pretty flimsy, but the full moon clips I got from Dillon/Brownells have been very good at taking a beating. I almost have to try to make them bend.
They aren't cheap but they are good. A couple loaded moon clips in your pocket shouldn't get bent, but you should check them periodically.
Also, they are quick.... just watch Jerry Miculek some time.

Dern...didn't know they made that one. Have a S&W 940 and a Ruger 101 in 9mm (and a S. Six Ruger on long-term loan).
Never any trouble with the issue S&W or Ruger full moon clips...have had some no-name gun-show clips that bent and jammed up the cylinder rotation, so I'd order a MINIMUM of them from an after market company...test them...and if good, order more (but don't just trust them and order a bunch at once).
Perscription medication containers...the plastci pill bottles...soem are just teh right size to contain a two loaded full moon 5-shot clips, and are pretty natural to have in your pocket...in you breif case...out in the open (cup holder) in the car.

I carry a Smith 940 9mm which uses moon clips and I've never had any problem with them. I like the 9mm in a snubby, because it has all the power of a 357 Mag with light bullets IN A 2" BARREL SNUBBY

Thanks for the responses. After doing a little research I hear that the stellar clips from Taurus are garbage. I don't think there are any after market clips available yet.
Also, does anyone know if the 905 can be fired in an emergency without the clips. I know that the 45ACP Tracker can.
Ribbonstone - I have an SP101 in 357mag and I think it's a great gun. If they still made it in 9mm I'd probably get it instead.
Thanks for the help.

The first thing you will learn is that Ribbonstone is a bad influence. ;) Not only did he take me out for the best crawfish in the New Orleans area (you eat them... well kinda different down there), but he carries a Smith 940, just like the one in my pocket right now. They are great and give all the performance of a 357 in a smaller and more concealable package. I have one of those Ruger SP-101's in 9mm also and they are stellar performers.
My findings on full moon clips has been very good and limited mostly to the Ruger ones. They also fit the Smith but not visa versa. They are either perfect (non warped) from the factory or they are throwaways. I find about 20% to be throwaways and the remainder give good long service. I think the Smith ones (fewer rejects) are not as strong.
I did not even realize the 9mm Tarus existed. If you can get good full moon clips, you'll find them to be fast and handy for reloads.

Bill..was between jobs at the time (which has been rectified), or we'd have made it to some places that would give you stoies you COULDN'T tell on these boards. Make it back down here again, and we'll try to.
Don't know if Ruger still lists the 9mmv ersion or not...believe not. And the S&W version is long gone...as it the Security Six and the S&W 547...may leave Taurus alone in the filed.
Still stand behind the idea of getting GOOD moon clips. Haven't a clue if the S&W (wich are like throwing stars in shape) or the Ruger (which run on the outside, so look like circles with finger protrusings running towards the center) would work with the Taurus...certainly wouldn't order any without a chance to try a example.
