I just did a test and evaluation on one and it really shot well, right out of the box. I ran 8 or 9 different kinds of ammo through it, and I suggest, before you do anything "mechanical" to your new Comp. that you do the same. Some of these "target" and "match" firearms are REAL particular about the ammo they like to shoot. Don't leave out the testing of "bulk" ammo, and do try Wolf Match. Also, most of these pieces do their best stuff after about 4-500 rounds of seasoning fodder pumped down the barrel, so be patient.
Check out my web site: www.rimfirenews.com for the report on the Competition Model.

you may want to field strip and clean out the preservitave gunk, lube it, and then run a brick of hi velocity ammo thru it. at this point it should be "broken in" and running smoothly. there is another thread here under "rimfire handguns" where i posted several MKII help sites and goodie sources. (field stripping the MKII the first time will be a pain, after that it's not bad) http://www.markii.org is a place to go if ya wanna do some reading. check out the forum there as there is a stickie somewhere called "care and feeding of .22/45", and the MKII can be treated the same. it seems like the CCI mini mags is the favorite flavor for most MKII owners, so it would be good to try them. yours may or may not like 'em. my 678 competition target and my .22/45 both do well with stingers, but Ruger doesn't reccomend them in the MKIIs. something to do with case length i think. you might want to Loc-tite the front sight screw, as they are known for loosening up on the target sighted Rugers.
keep us posted, you have a fine handgun :D

Shoot the snot out of it. Chances are that it will be more accurate than you :)
A brick through it ought to smooth up the trigger a little and give you a good idea of the potential of hte gun.
Here's my tip: Don't send it back to the factory for repair. Mine has been there for 7 weeks. Never fired a shot. Broke when I received it.

I stripped my gun for the first time yesterday, those websites had really detailed information. thanks
Does anyone know where I can get a holster for the ruger competition model? What accessories would be good? Can I get High capacity magazines for it? what distance do you usually shoot at?

i don't know about holsters, i made my own.
i'm not aware of any hi-cap mags available for the MKII
accessories i'd reccomend: 1) Volquartsen sear 2) Volquartsen, Clark or stock trigger modified for pre-travel screw (directions at the MarkII site) it doesn't really matter which trigger you choose as they all function the same. just different feel. the VQ trigger over travel stop can be adjusted without stripping the gun, and is wide and smooth. 3) blast shield from Rimfire sports and custom. keeps gunk away from the trigger group.
other goodies you may or may not choose to install, but i kinda like are the Houge wrap-around grips with finger grooves, and an Exact edge extractor.
the VQ sear should drop the trigger pull weight to somewhere around 2# to 2 1/4#. i use the Ruger trigger return spring and not the one included with the VQ trigger, as i don't want the trigger pull any lighter on mine. the Exact edge extractor is a very high quality part for less than $10, but may not be necessary.
i'd also think about getting a red dot scope, they are easy to mount (i think your gun is drilled and tapped for rail) and can be had for less than $30 and up. lotsa fun.
i think all of this is available from two places:

AJ,
If you'll give me some more details (not the s/n!) about the problem, exactly when you sent it in, and any correspondance you've had with Ruger, I'll try to use some of my contacts in the company to find out what's going on. Have you not been contacted at all? You should NEVER have to wait this long!
Send me the details at: info@rimfirenews.com

I had Clark put in his trigger and work his magic on mine. It will outshoot both my 10-22s with the aimpoint dot site.

When i first bought my MKII i had a **** of a time getting the pin that runs though the bolt to come out for dissasembly but after running 2 bricks of federals though it, the gun has really become alot easier to shoot and to take apart. The trigger really smoothed out and other than the tiny bit of overtravel, feels great!
