on the Raging Thirty, anything on THAT revolver or on the .30 carbine in a revolver period, performance, accuracy, trigger pull, whatever you can tell me. I'd be using it to shoot pins with btw.

You can have it in the .41 or .44 mag, as well as the bigger revolver rounds, the Bee, Hornet, and the 30 Carbine. I have a 5" model in .480 Ruger. I've not had it for a year yet, but it has proven to be accurate, well fitted/made, and hasn't failed to go "bang" as of yet. I don't see any reason to have the RB in anything less than a .44 Mag. The .30 carbine is neat, but you can have it in a Blackhawk, much more appropriate size for the cartridge at hand. The Bee and Hornet, if you want them in a handgun, will be MUCH, MUCH more effective in a TC Contender. The .41 Mag has a great asset in its .44 Mag/.45 Colt power levels in that it's a very portable gun, when loaded properly with good cast bullets. I'm not saying that the .41 is the equal to a .44 or .45, but nothing you shoot in the lower 48 will know the difference. A .41 would be OK in the RB, and a very strong revolver, but I personally don't see the need to carry that kind of heft for a .41, even if it is spitting 300gr bullets at 1300fps. It would be a superb pin gun for a reloader in .41, .44, or .45....heck even in .480 or .454 if you reload and don't mind paying a little extra for components.

As to accuracy, I really only shoot mine offhand, never been a big fan of pushing 400+ gr slugs out of a 5" revolver off the bench. I can keep a cylinder full in a 3" bullseye at 25 yards offhand, so I'm pretty sure the revovler will do a bit better off a rest. In some informal shooting I have no problem hitting milk jugs at 100 yards in a sitting position with my wrists rested on my knees, so I'm pretty sure all the accuracy you need is there, at least with the one I have.

The trigger pull on mine is second only to the guns that Taurus made a name for themselves by copying. It's actually better than my M617 was out of the box. You can say it's about as good as you can expect from any revovler maker that sells revolvers for less than $1K. Quite a bit better than most.

I have two Taurus revolver and had a M99 for a half dozen years. I have had very good luck with Taurus handguns. One thing you should know...there have been reports of spotty quality. I'm personally far more satisified with the fit, finish, and triggers on my two Taurus revolvers than I am with the last six Rugers I purchased, albeit all single actions. I don't put too much stock in the spotty quality, as the last premium limited-run Ruger I bought looked like it was finished by a shop class in a school for the blind and mentally inferior....great shooter though, with the standard crappy trigger.

There is nothing a .30 Carbine will do that a .357 won't, and I would NEVER carry a revolver the size of a RB for a .357. If you want to put a scope on it, buy a TC and learn about true long range accuracy with a handgun, otherwise I don't see the RB for the lighter calibers, it's a BIG revolver.

Edit-If you shoot real pin matches where the pins are on the front of the table, and must be knocked off the table, I hope you have a speedloader or two on hand to get it done with, cause the .30 carbine is NO pin shooting cartridge. It takes momentum to move pins, and heavy slow bullets work many times better than light fast ones.

I personally dont like rugers, so the black hawk is out. as for it not being a pin gun, we shoot extremely light bullets through .357 and send them flying, not to mention were not shooting matchs, nor are we shooting off of a table. we set up 5 pins on 2*4s stacked the 3 high, just for fun.

If all they have to do is tip over, then sure, 22s work also. But try clearing a table when they are set at the front.... always the stray pin or two that ends up laying down, with the small end facing... pretty tough to get those rolling backwards, under time pressure.

Shooting pins off of a table is a lot of fun (rough on the table sometimes) and for sure you'll be quick at clearing jams and reloading. That's one way I really got to know my Ruger P90, and since then, have dispatched a few critters with it.

I Love Pin/plate Shooting. Tables Separate The Good From The Bad...quick. They Also Can Humble A Person. A Friend Of Mine Just Bought A 30 Carbine Auto Ordinance? To Go With His Marlin Levergun. He Wants To Try Pin Shooting With It. Will Relay Info After The Next Time We Practice. I Prefer My Mod 29 7.5" Bbl Shooting 250 Gr At About 650 Fps. I Do Wish For A 7th Shot!!!! Might Have To Get One Of Those 8 Shot 357's.

I DID prefer a 629 8 3/8" barrel but my grandfather sold it and bought one of the 8 shot .357's, dont like the .357 too much though. if you get any experince with the .30 tell me!
