Anyone have any experience with a model 48 in .22 mag. I have the opportunity to pick one up for $250 in good condition. Thought it would make a nice chuck gun.and a good companion to my .22/.32 kit gun. It appears to be a K frame 4" barrel and adj sights.

That about sums it up...K-frame, adjustable sights, thin brarrel...claissic S&W style. If you are a .22mag. fan, is about as nice as .22mag. revovlers got... 250 for a good condition expample is reasonable.

Not going to get an amazing amount of vel. and power...will expend the .22LR's killing range by 25-50ayrds.

I just got back from the range, this is one of those guns that I know I'll never sell. I shot some rem 40 gr soft points and some rem 33 gr v-max. Groups were excellent off-hand and I really want to bench it to see what it will do at longer ranges. I'm going to try it on wood chucks and see how it does. It'll be a great walk around gun when I'm working on my in-laws farm. Its hard to tell from shooting at some pieces of clay bird on the ground but it sure seems to have alot more impact effect than the lr hp from my kit gun.

I have the same gun in a 6 inch barrel. It was my dad's and I'll have it forever, great little shooter.
