After a recent day of shooting, I sat down to do my ritual cleaning on my 2 revolvers (gp100, sp101 - stainless). However, I realized that I probably didnt have enough solvent left for the whole job- so I borrowed some that my father had lying around- Hoppes 9 Copper Solvent.

Seeing as how it claimed to be copper solvent, I wasnt sure how well it'd work- but it did a fantastic job! Even the stains on the front of the cylinder came off after a little light brushing with a brass brush. Basically, it cleaned much more quickly and easily than the nitro solvent (Outers I think) I had been using.

So Im wondering, is this stuff too strong for regular use? Or am I ok using it regularly- cuz I was very impressed with how well it worked.

You can use the Hoppe's as much as you want without harming the firearm.

The standard Hoppe's #9 has been the benchmark bore solvent since Hector was a pup. The Copper solvent came around about 20 years ago, or so. It is not as aggressive as a lot of the copper removing solvents, so you can leave it in the bore overnight and use it to wipe the carbon fouling from the body of the revolvers.

Hoppe's copper solvent is one of the fluids used as a matter of course in my gun cleaning routine.
