Friends All- We have finished load development on the Predator slug, designed for both smoothbore and rifled shotgun barrels. This loaded round will be offered for sale on Dixie Slugs (dixieslugs.com-under const.) in 5 round packs.
This slug weighs 563 grs., hollowbase filled with a 20 ga. wool wad, heat treated, bullet alloy (90%3%7%), and has Superfine Grade Moly vibrated into the slug's surface. They will be listed only in 12 ga.3", both can also be loaded by the handloader in 2 3/4" hulls.
We settled on a velocity of 1275'/". The high velocity boys might think this is low, but realize this is a balance of velocity, penetration, and RECOIL!..........After all, at 25 yards, it penetrated nine (9) water filled milk jugs. We solved the age old problem of wads blowing into the slug's hollowbase by inserting a wool 20 ga. wad. This light wool wad never showed up in the bases of recovered wads. The test barrels were the Remington 870 Express 20" slug barrels and the 24" barrels will up the velocity about 25'/" per extra inch barrel.
Best Regards, James
